| 'Pack and Go' Method
Some newer page layout software tools have a function to
prepare files for sending to a printer. These 'pack and
go' methods create a report file that describes the document
and copies it along with the associated picture files into
one folder.
These pack and go functions gather all the parts used in
your document and save them in one output file. (in quarkxpress
and freehand, this function is called 'collect for output,
in coreldraw this function is called 'prepare for service
bureau')
The QuarkXpress 'collect for output' feature generates
a report of useful information about the document. This
report is a text file, formatted with XPress tags, that
is saved in the same folder as the 'collected documents'
and picture files.
When you 'pack and go' you save yourself time and money
by ensuring that all links and photo files go to your printer
with the rest of your document.
